Assisted living facilities can differ significantly from one another.

Assisted Living community is a social model.  All residents must have a primary care physician at time of admission.  Assisted Living community do not have a medical director on staff.

Assisted living community is a social model where Activities of Daily Living are performed ie.  bathing, medication pass, grooming, toileting and dressing. A medical model is a hospital or Skilled Nursing Facility where doctors and nurses work and medical procedures are performed.

Contrary to popular belief there are no ratios required for care givers to residents in an assisted living community.

Nurses are not required in assisted living communities under Title 22 and Department of Social Services.

All over the counter medication will require a prescription from a medical doctor, this includes aspirin and cream.

Termination of services requires 30-day notice in writing.  There are exceptions to TBD.

Medication administration passes are given by Medication Technician.  Requirements: Medication Technicians view an eight-hour video, pass a written proficient exam and shadow/mentored by a medication technician for three to six days before passing medication solo.

Medication administration in assisted living is considered a medication pass with medication poured in a small cup container.  Medication Technician are not allowed to place medication directly in month.  Only nurses and physicians can perform direct administration of medication.

Injections may only be administered by a licensed nurse or physician. Some exception to this. TBD
